After 31st March 2009 all applications for Student Visas for over 6 months must be made under Tier 4 of the Points Based System. The system is simpler, more transparent and objective to benefit students. Under the new system, applicants will need to be sponsored by an institution which is registered as an official sponsor.
As an adult student, you must score 40 points in total to be eligible to make an application. Out of the 40 points, 30 points for a visa letter, which you will get for studying a course at an acceptable level with an approved education provider and 10 points for having enough maintenance funds for your course fees and living costs.

Documents required for Student Visa Application :
Completed Visa application form – VAF9 & Appendix 8 (For Tier 4 General Student).
Visa letter from the University/College.
Fee Receipt from the Educational Institution.
Accommodation letter if booked in advance.
All original Certificates as stated in the Visa letter from the Educational institution.
Marriage Certificate if applicable.
Proof of Funding : Any funds shown, needs to be held in the APPLICANT’S NAME (Maybe held jointly) for a minimum period of 28 days before the application. Any Bank letter taken must also be appropriately signed/stamped by the bank official.
Bank Loan : Full loan Sanction agreement from the bank (if it is a copy, needs to be attested). If any deposit has been availed from the bank, a covering letter showing the balance amount available and funds already disbursed to be taken.
Savings Bank : Bank Statement/Pass Book covering the 28 day period immediately before the application. The Covering letter and the Statement should have the Student’s Name, Date of the Statement, Financial Institution’s name & Logo, Account Number and the Amount of money available.
Fixed Deposit : Copy or Original of the Fixed Deposit Receipt. A covering letter from the Financial Institution which needs to have the Student’s name, Date, Financial Institution’s name & Logo, FD Number, the value of the FD on the current day (i.e. how much is the FD valued at on that day if it is cashed in early) and state these funds can be withdrawn immediately/immediately encashable.
2 Colour Passport style photos with white background, not more than 6 months old.
Size 45mmx35mm.
Passport (Previous Passports as well if any).
Appropriate Visa fees.
Please note to make one copy of each document.
All the original documents need to be submitted at the Visa Application Centre by the Applicant and the Bio metrics to be done. Your documents will be forwarded to the British Deputy High Commission, Chennai by the VAC. Once your documents are processed, it will be sent to the Meridian Office by courier.
If prior appointment needs to be taken please intimate us at least a week before submitting your application.
Applications are accepted from 8.30am to 12.00 or 2.00pm to 3.00 pm from Monday to Friday
(except public holidays).
